After seeing the frog in fishguts post today (the one about his new pickups from Ken) it made me wonder if there is a frog (preferably south american or I guess central) that can do well in a cichlid tank.

i have all south american fish except Julio my convict.

I've never tried it, but I have seen the big albino clawed frogs with SA cichlids before. There was also a display tank that had 3 large ones with several adult africans in the 6 inch range. I would think severums and fish with similiar attitudes might work. It seems to in pet stores. Doesn't mean it will always work at home. Not sure about the really mean fish like RD's and such though.

I saw that frog in there with fishguts post. I was thinking that I wanted a frog too after that. I think it would be a nice addition if I could make it work

Yeah if you want a SA frog Pipa pipa (Surinam toad) is the one to get. Very cool breeding habits too, if you have a pair.

I would think it would work with more peaceful SA's (sevs, chocs, festivum, uaru, etc) but I imagine the more aggressive cichlids would nip/eat it. And they will eat small fish (so will the clawed frog that fishguts has) so rams & apistos would be a "no".

HAHA, I remember buying frogs to feed to my cichlids....bad idea IMO. Too small for my fish. My Pbass used to loooove those woods frogs.
