So i have a 30 gallon fully established waiting for africans to jump in. I have kept jewels in the past but that is no big deal. Now i need help of what kind of fish to get. I was thinking peacocks but i dont know what other africans can go with them? and can haps live with them? and also i know the tank is small so should i stick with just one species like peacocks and try to breed??
(sorry if i sound stupid lol)

peacocks get too large for a thirty gallon tank.. for a thirty i would get 5 lab{electric yellows} gentle and easy to grow and breed and won't get too big... especially if you do not intend to upgrade in size tank..

:iagree:

I think a 30 gallon is too small for regular sized cichlids. You could do dwarf cichlids in it though. Have you thought of any dwarf cichlids ? I would not want to keep a fish that got any bigger as adult than say 3 inches. 30 gallons work great for a grow out tank and also for isolation tanks but as a permenant home they tend to be too small unless the fish is small.

I have to disagree with you this time. I breed in 30 gallon tanks with up to 5 peacocks and they have plenty of room. That includes rock work and hiding places. I am with Mike on this one.

i think you being a breeder would know.. so i would take what ever you say as fact... i just thought it would be a little tight.. some of mine are so big after all these years .. so if you say so i agree with you... :D

Over time as they get real big it probably would not be ideal for any more than a trio but you are then talking years. I will be changing older females for younger fresh ones before that happens though.
