Ok, so here it goes, I have had convicts and firemouth cichlids for years now, i have bred them and I have shown them. The question that I have now it... i have had my convicts and firemouth cross breed before, i knew that could happen. But recently I went on holiday for 2 weeks, and i came home and was shocked when I looked in 150 gallon tank.... all that I have in there right now is one blood parrot cichlid, one oscar, one convict, one firemouth, and a rainbow shark.... well the convict is in one corner with fry... and the firemouth is in a different area with fry..... if not together... who could they have cross bred with... the oscar and the BP dont really show much interest in either of them... but I have only had a few minutes to observe them since I have been back...

Any help ideas would be GREAT!!!!!

yes, the convict is a female and the firemouth a male, i have no idea how to sex the other two to be honest... the more that i watch tehm it looks like the firemouth may be with the convict... but i didnt think that oscars could interbreed.... could sperm from one have just "drifted" unto the others eggs (therefor have the same father...) ... I will try to get some pics up tomorrow, the fry with the firemouth are not even free swimming yet, still in the pot...

I do not think the oscer, could cross breed with them 2.

that i am for sure of.

sry i am not much help

i would think the fire mouth and the convict are cross breeding.

if the fire mouth is not eatin them and the convict is not then they should be very aggressive to the other fish that get close the the brood/eggs.

they are each with a pod of fry, on opposite sides of the tank and the convict and the firemouth are still aggressive toward one another, its the other two that really arent that aggressive.... I have had convicts and firemouths cross, 4-5 times.... this time, these two, want to kill each other

Asexual reproduction perhaps? A new fold in evolution? Jacobs have a genetic breakthrough.

ha ha, that would be something else wouldnt it

maybe you have that 1 in a million "fertile" blood parrot!!!

see, i was told that about half of female BP's are fertile, its just the mails that are almost always sterile?? but idk either way
