Got this tank from a friend to add to my fish room. He said he got this from the lfs out of a Green Terror order but they didn't know what was causing it to be different.
I've had it for a month and it's been coloring up like crazy and the fins have been growing and extending a lot more. It was very full at first. Also is this fish a male or female? Thanks guys

I hoped that wasn't the case, but thank you very much for letting me know. I'll be certain to keep it in a tank free from other compatible cichlids.
If anyone thinks they can tell the gender, has any special care tips, or any interesting info about this top of deformity then please do share.
It is an extremely docile fish, and when ever it eats it's Omega One super color pellets it's gills extend past it's gill plates. It's pretty revolting yet my wife and I can't seem to look away. Is that normal for GTs?

Agree most likely a deformity instead of a hybrid.
In most cichlid spawns, there are a certain percentage of deformities, (bent spines, screwed up mouths, bubble eyes, etc etc) could be as much as 10%-20%, an observant breeder will notice and cull them out, but in the case of a large fish farm shipping thousands of fish, easily go unnoticed.
This is how we ended up with blood parrots, the deformity was noticed, but instead of being culled, it was line bred in, same as ballooned ,bubble eye goldfish.
