cichlid ID plz

i just been to my LFS and purchased this cichlid.

have any one got any idea what it is?

i think it's a she and it's about 8-9" in lenght

is it a festae?

red terror?

some kind of tripod?

help.... lol

i've just got it home, and it wasn't colouring up in the shop.

will the colour improve? or shouldn't i get my hopes up?

Mayan = Amphilophus Uropthalmus.....a.k.a false red terror

It might color up slightly more than it is but nothing like a Festae.

can i ask how do you guys know its a Uropthalmus and not a red terror? what gives it away?

It's a uro, and a male, spot at base of tail, in fesate the spot is small and at the top of the tail, uropthalmus the spot is large and centers at the base of the tail. The Florida fish farmers all sell Uros as Red terrors, one of the biggest scams in the hobby right now. I like uros, but hate when fish are sold under the wrong name, that's why you should never use common names, learn the latin. Ken
