Just got this today, listed as Chiclasoma bimaculatus. I assumed it was a mis-labled Vieja bifasciatus but now not so sure is it possibly synsiplum - can anyone advise.
Well it's deffinately not a Cichlasoma bicmaculatum which is a south american port cichlid. Not good with the Vieja/Paratheraps species though, so don't want to guess what it is.
I think it a Vieja maculicauda or Black belt Cichlid or maybe even a Cichlasoma synspilum... Im leaning more to the synspilum because of the gold markings on the tail and the blueish tint near the head of the fish..
I thought synspilum because of body shape and mouth. It seems quite shy compared with other Vieja, it's currently co-habiting with female managuense, male Midas and Male JD - may have to remove it to another tank if it doesn't settle.
i agree with Modest Man...you'll have to wait until it shows more of it's normal color but synspilum is the closest that I can see but I don't think it's a pure synspilum.
