cichlid ID....

I was at the store buying food and as usual I found myself in the cichlid area... I saw this fish in a discus tank I asked the lady what it was and she said it was a ram that only eats bloodworms thats not aggresive at all... I almost bursted out laughing... Well im pretty sure its a vieja argentea im not too familiar with vieja but I'm almost 99% sure... I got it for $2.99 so I jumped on it right away.. It already has some nice fins going I chose the dominant one so im hoping its a male.....

wow that is definitely a steal!! gotta love clueless fish store workers lmao!!! argenteas are pretty hard to sex by their coloring, especially when not mature, let it settle in a little bit to show its normal coloring better and post another pic, from the spotting i kind of want to say it looks female since they are soo spaced out but at that size its best to vent

Thanks sarah it was the dominant one in the tank which lead me to believe uit was male....

yeah i was actually just looking at my male and the spotting actually is pretty similar... but yeah still best way is too vent these guys are really hard to sex by color without being right beside each other for comparison...

I had three between 8 and 12" and I still got the sex wrong on one. Come back in a year and maybe we could sex it.
