OK, so I have had my 125g for a few months now and finally got around to setting it all up. I have everything ready all I need to do is add water and cycle it.

Now my question is, what kind of cichlids (not solo, more than one) would you put in a 125g if you had one? Keep in mind they must be readily available. I would like something aggressive, it can be one species, or multiple, is should be a colorful/stunning fish, and somewhat to very personable, looking to keep 3-5 fish in there.

I dont know too much about cichlids hence me asking for your help/opinions.I am an experienced fish keeper (all my current tanks have solo piranhas) so Im looking for something a little more exciting.

I dont like the look of the cichlids with the "hump" on the head such as an adult flowerhorn. So please keep that in mind.

Thanks in advance!

Readily available......Convicts, green terrors, jack dempseys, discus, and angels are all nice for a 125 set up. Just research these, and choose which ones you like. Convicts, green terrors, jack dempseys can all be kept together. Some people keep discus and angels together.

My 125 has a green terror, jack dempsey, male convict,2 firemouth a severum 7 tiger barbs for movement and a pictus cat all have been great with some flare ups but thats it.The green terror is the king of the tank and has stunning colors.

my mine is packed! u can see in my signature!

readily available - i would go with green terror, jack dempsey, oscar, convicts

harder to find - female festae, different veija

A lot of the SA/CA male cichlids get the "hump" on their head. Do some research there are a lot of pics on the internet with tons of information.

id say a texas, convicts, Firemouth meekis, jack dempseys, green terrors. although convicts and green terrors normally get nuchal humps when mature and only if their male.

I would a put an Oscar, Jack Dempsey, a couple Convicts and a Green Terror in there. I would also add a Pleco.

If GT's and convits get the "hump" when they mature then I wont like them...

I googled pics of the rest of the fish and I like the looks of these.

Texas, firemouth, JD's. Maybe an oscar. I would also like to throw some tiger barbs in there....

One of each? Or how many of each of these could I do? Does M/F matter when putting these species together?

Thanks for the great help so far!

^^I meant to ask in my post above, are the "lemon" oscars a wild caught fish? Or are they one of those dyed/mutilated colored fish?
