Have you added just 2, or a group?
Trying to do just 2, can be very difficult, or easy as pie. I have put in a male and female together, and had them pair up within hours, but just as often, had it take months, or had them kill each other in moments.
My best successes have been when I put 6 to 12 youngsters together, and let them grow up and pair up naturally.

when i added my male red devil to the tank with my female it took like 2 weeks before the first spawn which failed,

if you do it properly it shouldnt take long. some fish longer then others. i had a pair of firemouths maybe a week after i got em they spawned. my jds are a different story . they act like they are interested one second then arent the next. but after a week of doing daily water changes they spawned today while i was at work.

I have a pair of dovii, 6 months they spawned 4 times and they never hatched for differnt reasons. Today she layed a hell of a lot of eggs so Im hoping this time they get it right, this will be spawn number five.:irked:

Like folks said above, adding a male and a female can have varied success, but isn't the best way to get a pair in my experience. I look at it kind of like an arranged marriage between people. Overtime, they can come to like each other, but it is way easier if you mix a group of guys and a group of gals and let them pick their own mates.
