today i decided i was going to net out a large batch of fry from each tank, first tank is the red devil pair both full grown and they defended the fry best they could from the "invader" at some points trying to put themselves into the net, they also seemed to be trying to gather the fry back to the pit while defending.second tank is my red dragon flower horn pair both juveniles and first spawn and they could care less if i took the fry or not.and i notice the fry are everywhere in the tank and not hanging around the parents like with my red devils.my question is this because the flower horns are immature and just dont know what to do or is it cause they are hybrids? they dont attack the fry or anything but its like they are more into each other and not worried about them.kinda strange to see the difference

Like you stated young and not experienced parents. Don't know if being Hybrids have anything to do with lack of protecting the fry.

Yeah it's definitely because they were young and inexperienced parents. My FH's would ferociously guard their young. Lol they would even try to attack my cat (Shaddow) thru the glass of the tank when he would hop up into the chair next to the tank to whatch them. The female normally would shy away from me but when she had fry or eggs she would mercilessly attack me and draw blood. The male was always mean to me, the only change I noticed with him was that he would feed the young crushed up pellets and would keep them all neatly grouped together.

yea thats what i figured it prolly was.yea these 2 could care less, was just another day for them they still attack anything u try and put in with them but i think thats just flowerhorns and has nothing to do with the fry.this male is exceptionally nice to this female,no squabbles or anything kinda surprised by this.but he was trying to pair with her for weeks before she finally gave in

Well that's good they get along so well. My male was very mean to his female when they first got together. Lol it was good he couldn't fit in her cave with that baseball on is head.
