ok so im planning to build a cichlid pond made of wood with a plastic liner. any ideas on size for it and substrate on the bottom.
it will contain 6-7 frontosa and two emperor cichlids.what is a good way to filter and heat it?
also is there anyway to build a small window made of acrylic?

I am going to refer you to the DIY section for tanks. Here is a link <http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?335-DIY-Tanks>

As for size, GO AS BIG AS YOU CAN!!!!! In all honesty do think about running costs though, because while big tanks are awesome they can be expensive when you think about filtration, lighting, electrical costs, etc. So as I half joked, go as big as you can - just keep in mind that as you get bigger building costs aren't the only thing that will go up.

As to whether you can build a pond the way you described, definitely. Can you put in a viewing window, not sure. I suggest looking through other people's builds and seeing what you think would be best, and feel free to ask questions. You will get better answers in that part of the forum.

I say make it longer, not deeper, for those emps need a lot of room.If they don't have the space,no frontosa will be comfortable with them. The fornts will probably be hiding anyway, and you will need a light substrate or you will not see the fish too well.maybe a 10 x 6 x 3ft tall near a window of your house or build a deck around it,or both.don't forget the wood bridge going across.have fun!
