I am wanting to make a central american bio-type. I already have 1 jack dempsey and a large (5 inch) pleco. what are some chiclid proof plants that are native to central america?

Amazon Sword? By the way, they will probably dig up any plants you put in unless you weight them well.

cichlids in plant tanks = :wall:
but I've had pretty good luck with vals and java ferns... not necessarily the CA theme but beggars can't be choosers.

I've heard anubias plants do well with large cichlids because they can be anchored to driftwood and such and don't have to be rooted. :)

try weighted plants that are rooted in a pot of some sort they should be fine. or try floating plants like water hyacinth

A very nice looking plastic one always has worked for me LOL :naughty:

i tend to agree, i hear silk ones are nice too. i have bought plastic plants from craft stores and made my own too. they have a great selection of stuff you wont see in your lfs, but theres some DIY once you get them home.

Plants???? My Jag makes it his personal mission to tear apart any decor there is.

I use "wood" plants, aka driftwood with great success.
