I currently have an ice blue cichlid and I'm on my second attempt at having some plants in the tank, the new lot of plants lasted a bit longer but have been uterly demolished in the last hour!

Are there any cichlid proof plants that you can recomend or ways of keeping them safe from the cross tank open mouthed charges?

Plastic

Sometimes java fern or anubias can hold up. I tried them in my mbuna tank and they were shredded. I'm trying some water lettuce now and it's doing ok.

actually i hv amazon plants in my tank and its just 100 cm ... with 2 yellow lab and they dont do anything 2 da plants .. maybe coz am feeding them everyday with lettuce ... am gonna stop feeding them with vegetable and see what they will do with amazon plants ... if they do ok am gonna tell u again ... :)

Ozelot Swordplant
Aponogeton boivinanus
Anubias (large leaves)

The three above work great with cichlids and do not need much C02 nor any ferts.

Java moss is the king. It's in all my tanks, even with my Oscar.

I have anubias and java ferns....never had problem. Other than a nibble on the anubias here and there. Every other plant was demolished. Plastic is your best option if you have already done anubias and java fern. Good Luck...
