I just purchased a 75 gallon tank w/ a fluval 404 filter and am planning on getting some cichlids for it. Is there any good fish that i can cycle my tank with (how many) ? and how many cichlids can i have in a 75 gallon tank and is a 75 gallon tank big enough for them to breed ? This will be my first fish tank so any info will be helpful. Thanks

Depends on what type of cichlid you are looking at. There are many from small cichlids like Rams to large cichlids like a Dovii (which won't fit in that tank).

id say that the best way to cycle a tank would be either convict cichlids, jack dempseys,or oscars.these are very hardy fish.there are alot of fish that have to have the water almost perfect to live, like discus fish.

Youre going to have to do some research on what types you like then decide from there. Their are 1000's of cichlids out there from monsters to not so monsters. Visit some LFS's and see what catches your eye. Be careful with the convicts if you get a pair, they'll breed like rabbits and at a small size!!

Go to the grocery store, buy a frozen prawn, cycle away saving fish life. As others have said, research first. Rift lake cichlids have really good color, but South American have personalities to kill for, where alot of Central American have attitudes that kill.......... African Riverine kinda mix all worlds....... There are plenty of cichlid pics on here, I suggest going through the photo lounge and see if anything catches your eye and o from there. Most ppl post names with pics so you'll be ok to do a google on whatever you like. Plus there is a fortune in knowlege here and we are all willing to help.
