Cichlid situation

as stated above a 150 should be min tank size but i dont think this stock will work out long term, the first to go is the salvini....

Why 150gal? A 135 is the same footprint with just 2-3" less depth and a 125 4-5" less? Im not disagreeing since the only fish in that list i have any exp with is the con, buy just curious as to the logic.

I suppose worst or best case scenario depending how one sees it, i will maybe have to rehome some or keep the same setup I have now. I have 3 90's one w the flower & con, one with the butti and a jewel, and one with 2 sals some catfish and tetras. I want to condense them down from 3 tanks to one larger tank for obvious reasons, but I am attached to all the fish I named for the new tank. The other ones I'm willing to let go. From my experience the con can hold its own with almost any tank mate and although I haven't tried the sal with lots of other large mates I've seen some aggression in one of them and from my research their reputation is that they are at least as tough as cons. I'm more worried about the two big fish not accepting each other and wondering how big I would have to go for them to live and let live.

Well the thing is not so much size as the psychotic nature some buttis possess. I've personally lost large male cons to buttis. My old butti held his own against a larger jag but he was stunted and no where near his full potential a larger butti can and will wipe out your entire stock if it so decided. Just watch them for aggression but I wouldn't mix sals or cons with a butti

Why not give the butti its own tank and just put the others together in one. You'll have have two tanks instead of just one big one but on the bright side you can keep the fish you want to keep.

I guess that's probably what I'll end up doing because I really want to keep all of the fish. The tetras can go if necessary but I love all my cichlids. I was hoping that with caves and rocks too tight for the butti to get into that maybe they would have a safe refuge. Its probably better not to risk it though. I just would love to have one big tank in its own section of the basement instead of a bunch of them. Only one tank to maintain etc. But I guess it's more about whats right for the fish. Thanks everyone.
