I'm gunna admit.... I'm a Cichlid :newbie:
What small cichlids of aby type are suitable in a peaceful community tank with small-medium sized fish.... I ask this cause my lfs now sells cichlis:)

I wouldn't mix cichlids in with such non-agressive fish unless you want them to get eaten!! We've had numerous cichlids eat guppies and the eyes out of goldfish and a catfish. They don't seem to like eyes that bulge out. I have kept new babies in a 10 gallon guppy tank but only till they grew up enough to put back into the main cichlid tank. Just my opinion but I wouldn't mix them just too iffy .

Rams and apistos might work. Angelfish are commonly kept in community tanks but you have to beware of smaller fish the angels may eat or fin nippers that may go after the angels.

If you decided to grow out an EBJD, you could get one of those and eventually have it in the 50 gallon. You could also do Rainbow cichlids, Apistos, german rams, bolivian rams, and if you could get lucky, you could do angels. Or you could go with festivums, they start out with really small mouths.

aaah OK. I'lll get a closer look at them the nect oppertunity I get.
