Hi I wanted to make sure the water rate on my tank is adequate for all my fish. They are a Jaguar Cichlid, Firemouth, Red Devil ( female), Texas, Parrot and a Chalceus and some other little guy. I just got two new filters as my other one was super noisy. So far so good. I also realize the importance of water circulation and was looking into that. Still deciding! Anyways I think there’s some charts or some thing for tank size that would be incredibly useful. My tank is approximately 120 gallons. The two new filters are an overhang and an underwater. They don’t seem to be the best but are super quiet compared to my noisy canister filter. Hopefully they’ll do for now. I also have some other concerns which I’m sure I’ll touch on. Anyways any feedback or questions welcomed.

You will want to shoot for a 5x to 10x turn over rate.
Turn over rate is the entire volume of tank water going thru filtration.
Beings how you have a 120, 5 turns per hour is 600gph. But filter companies list the flow rate pre installation of bio/mech media. You lose about 1/3 of the listed flow rate after media.

I have a 125gal tank with two AC110s. The listed flow rate is 500gph. So both make 1000gph minus 1/3 is 667gph divided by 125 is 5.3 turns per hour.

So with your tank shoot for 1000gph not accounting for lose or 600gph accounting for the lose.
