I am moving my 20 African rift cichlids 1/2" to 1 1/2")from their 30 gallon setup to a bigger 50 gallon setup. I currently have a leopard pleco about 7 inches long in the big tank. These two tanks are very close together and i could easily do direct water transfer, or save the water in a bucket nearby, then dump em in... My main questions are any tips for a high survival rate, and will this pack of cichlids terrorize my pleco?

thanks,

I think you should be alright. the cichlids shouldn't terrorize the pleco to much. I have kept many with africans with no problems. just raise the ph of your bigger aquarium when you do the transfer if there is a ph difference.

i did the same thing, take half water out of the new tank
and half from the old one, the half from the old one, go int othe new one. so they ahve some of their old water, and just put them in. when i did it it worked =)
and the plec should be fine they are tough

all very good suggestions indeed. so wait till the middle of the night then bam hit the lights and start nabbing them (with the small tank half full of water and after a few hours of darkness...) and then just try and scoop em with a plastic pitcher and a net and then bam right in to the 50 (w/pleco and half of the 30 gal tank water)

thanks again,

Ash

Pleco that size will be OK w/small cichlids.
Maybe a big WC on the 30 that goes into the 50 w/ the big Pleco. Adjsting the Pleco. and BB to the AC tank. Do a couple of these til the 50 and 30 have the same parms.
