I'm waiting to see the price of a coal grunter (New Guinea fish) in a week or so, but if it's too costly, I may go with a young cichlid for a lone fish/55 gallon. I know all the reasons to get the grunter, but I wondered if anyone would like to vouch for a cichlid. So far, my cichlid choices are a grammode, or a cuban. Any others that would make good 55gallon pets?

go with the gramodes, by about 4 and pick the nicest male out of the batch, you shouldnt have trouble selling them.

No one else wants to stand up for their beloved cichlids?

I would go for a Cuban. I like the looks on the grammodes but personality wise, it's not even a competition.

I'd go with the grunter like I mentioned in the other post about this, but if you're going with a cichlid, I'd go with chocolates, they are great, and have very good personalities

I'm looking for something that will be unique (to the best extent) "large as possible" for a 55, and have a cool personality. Hope that helps.

I'd go with a Grammode if you don't mind waiting for it to grow or mabye a salvini pair

Who has Grunters

You mean, "who's selling grunters"?, or who owns them?

I'm waiting for a vendor to get them in stock. Hopefully not for too much $$$

So cubans are more outgoing than grammodes?
