Has anyone ordered from gage at cichlid connection if so how was the experience and did the fish live up to your expectations

I've ordered from them 3 or 4 times, but not in the last year. The fish I've received have been v. good/excellent quality; however, not once has my order been filled correctly. I've received substitutions without advanced notification/approval (e.g., three 5" regani instead of three 3" as requested, which sounds great except for compatibility issues with other fish in the tank; three 1.5" synspilum instead of one 4"), incorrect types sent (4" male freddy instead of 3" female loisellei [happened twice!]; 1" marbled fenestratus instead of 3" red/blue fenestratus), and one of my orders was poorly packed (very thin styrofoam box that was leaking profusely upon arrival at the airport. Attendants at airport said the thickness of the box did not meet specifications given the weight. One of the bags was almost out of water, but I re-bagged it in the parking lot and everything survived). Communication can be a bit frustrating if you are doing it via email (i.e., texting jargon with vague/insufficient information). I haven't tried calling. Because of these hassles I check with other vendors before considering CC. However, I'll go to them if I can't get what I'm looking for elsewhere after a sufficient amount of waiting.

Ive never ordered direct but have been in on a couple group buys. My current pearsei (Porkchop, my avatar) is from Gauge and very happy with her.

Along the way on one group order I did have an issue. I had ordered three small pearsei and they were in horrible shape. I never knew such small fish could have hole in the head and their fins were torn up bad and were healing up all jacked up. These would never grow out right or be good looking fish for that matter. My friend who took the lead in the group buy contacted Gage and he told me to send pictures which I did. After reviewing the pics he apologized and said he ran out of pearsei and had these filled in from another vendor he knew and told me to destroy them and that he would replace them. The only catch? I had to wait until the next order. It took a few months for another group buy and the truth was I really had no need for little tiny Pearsei to grow out. I was looking for a sizable male to possible breed with my Porkchop. So I asked my friend to just ask Gage if he would sent out a single confirmed male pearsei instead of three little ones. Gage had no problem with that and made it all good. He sent a beautiful 7" male pearsei in exchange. Very happy with his level of customer care and service.

So the only real 'issue' to the whole thing was that I had to wait for my replacement fish. Its one of those, I would rather do an I.O.U for fish on your next order than to credit money back or resend out on my dime type thing. If you can live with those terms then I would say go for it.

I keep telling everyone this guy is no good. He will give you all kinds of stories as to why he did not ship your fish. He took a month send me 15 1" umbees & 8 2" dovii all came in DEAD just a box and two bags that's it. And he would not reship or refund me. Go else where plz.

Have to ask, where these shipped next day or did you opt for a cheaper shipping method? There are many fish vendors who offer cheaper shipping options but will not offer a live guarantee if the are not shipped as next day.

True!! But he offered to reship. And after many phone calls and texts I did not hear from him.

I ordered once from him, got a rare fish at the time, that were bigger and cheaper than other vendors....no complaints at all

I had trouble with cichlid connection last time I ordered, too. He eventually made it right, the fish he shipped were good, but it took a while to get it all straightened out. I think right now, the consensus is tangledupincichlids and cichlidsoftheamericas. I've also had great experience with floridatropicalfishdirect.

Whatever happened to americancichlids--Dan ye jennings, in Colorado? I'd called him once, and it was too cold to ship, now I'm looking for some nice Bifa's, and his website is gone.

And "Don Conkel"? I've left several messages with them, emails, etc. Never heard back.

Dan ye is a she, not a he. :)

Rapps is my go to he just doesnt have any bicourti
