Hello CichlidPirate here, keeper of most things wet and wild (fish, reptiles, dogs, cats, etc.), my interests change regularly so do my fish. Been keeping fish (tropical and gold fish) for over 20 years and have been doing cichlids for about 18 years. Started with new world cichlids when I got myself a pair of Oscars and that is when the aquarium addiction began within 5 months I had 5 tanks including 2-75 gallon tanks. And to think it all started with a single 15 gallon tank; yes I know pair of Oscars and a 15 dont mix, yes I have made a lot of mistakes along the way, remember online forums did not really exist 20 years ago, and the LSF employees were idiots). My aquarium keeping peaked in about 2003-2004 when I had over 50 tanks ranging from 29 gallons to 300 gallons, I think I calculated at one point I had close to 4,000 gallons of tanks. Since then I have had kids and changes in workload which have caused the aquarium habit to shrink quite a bit. I am down to about 10 tanks (running), ranging from 55 gallons to 180 gallons, boy do I miss that 300 http://forums.*****************.org/images/smilies/mad2.gif.
I have kept pretty much every type of freshwater fish there are but mainly new and old world cichlids including angles and discus. I have enjoyed keeping natives (bass, sunfish, catfish, even trout for a bit), stingrays, tropicals of all sorts, catfish/plecos, Arowana, pufferfish, Tiger Fish, Koi and goldfish. Presently, I am doing mostly African cichlids mainly Haps and peacocks with a few mbuna (everyone has to have Labs dont they). I do have a few Tanganyikians (Fronts) and a few Victorians as well. My kids have taken over my 35 Hex and have a few goldfish, just to keep me grounded.
This has been my journey in the hobby; hope to make some great friends here and reconnect with a few old ones too. I am looking forward to the Konvention (yes I already registered). The members I have met already have been wonderful http://forums.*****************.org/images/smilies/runnningaround.gif
