Do yall think I could get away with stocking my 200 g with a florida gar and various large cichlids i.e. my KML FH, GT, JAG and some others? I am also looking for a nice cichla if anyone has one for sale?
I've had a spotted gar in with a silver aro, 2 jags, 2 oscars and a JD for about a year and a half. They are in a 180 gallon and I have had no problems. Just watch at feeding time to ensure the gar gets his share as mine isn't as aggressive as the others.
More than likely won't work with that group. If you ask in the gar forum you'll get a flat "no" from most re: gars and cichlids...but it can work if you pick the right cichlids. Overly aggressive CA's are not the right choice though, it can work with more peaceful species like severums, geos, uaru, things like that.
I had a similar question in the gar forum, and it appeared ok for less aggressive species, but you have some tough guys in that cichlid mix so I would assume the gar would be manhandled (garhandled?)
Personally I think the only thing that would work there is a gt and the gar. A flowerhorn would most likely be to mean and agressive to be in with other fish, jags are extremely agressive too and only work sometimes in with other fish most of the time they do not tolerate other fish.
