i never had problems with my bichirs not getting food, if they weren't getting enough of the sinking pellets then they would start to swim to the top and and get the floating pellets as well, one of my bichirs would straight up come and swim up on a group of pellets on the bottom and lay on them so that the cichlids wouldnt see them and then would eat them as it swam backwards and uncovered them as it ate the previous ones, it was pretty amusing to watch lol

but if yours is having trouble competing it might help to maybe feed the cichlids and then throw in some more sinking pellets after you turn all the lights off so they dont see them and the bichir can get a chance to find them

I put a bichir in with my cichlid fry and they started picking on him almost immediately. I moved them to the big tank and now he's chillin by himself.

i have bichir with my cichlids and there fine...

My last bicher was way too slow to compete for food with my other fish,do you hand feed yours??I had to.

no i feed my cichlids floating pellets and then dump in market shrimp for the bichirs. usually the cichlids are pretty full on the pellets so they may only eat 1 or 2 pieces of shrimp leaving the rest for the bichirs.

just to correct you its silver dollars not dollers..and also i cant believe how nice your fish are

my 12" ornate gets on just fine with mine as to feeding him ive found my cichlids don't like king prawns so i chuck a couple of them in which sink down and he gobbles them up

I have no problems between cichlid and bichir.. Even with cichlid fry... I've had my Blue gene dempsey fry (they escaped the plexy divider) swim right up to my del with no aggression from either... ever

BTW Nice set ups!!! sexy!
