Hi! So, I've done a TON of research (a ton meaning that I have been researching practically day and night for the past month), on my new tanks stocking ideas. I think I have come to my conclusion, but would like to get some opinions. I love south american cichlids, especially severums, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put them with rainbowfish (Melanotaenia and Glossolepis genus). I know rainbowfish can stand a wide range of water parameters, so hopefully that will not pose a problem. I would like to get a school of rainbowfish (10 or less), and a severum or two. My tank is a 75 gallon. Any opinions?

I keep Melanotaenia parkinsoni and Melanotaenia lacustris with a GT, JD, and salvini. The rainbowfish seem happy, the worst I've seen are some mild bitemarks on a couple of them when they were new to the tank but no problems since.

should be ok...severums are not big monsters in terms of aggression and rainbows are quick darting fishes..it may work out...good luck
