My oscar passed away and I would like to get another cichlid for my 55 gallon. There is a 12" pleco in there so it would have to get along with him. I would like to get a severum and I was wondering if I could keep two in a 55? If not, what other cichlid could I have a pair of in that tank?

Severum's only get to about 8". You could probably keep about 4 in a 55. You could probably keep 1 or 2 jack dempsey's, green terrrors, texas, although most people would tell you that you can only keep 1. You could keep a lot of convicts or firemouths because they only get about 6".

I have 3 severums (1-gold, 2-turquiose). They are awsome. The tips of their dorsal and anal fins get really long (as long as they don't bite each others fins). If you decide to get a gold one look for one with lots of red dots on them. That's a better quality one. For some reason a lot of them are just gold in color and don't have the red markings on them any more. Google it and check out the difference.

check out the difference.

Deffinatly make some hiding spots, but i don't think you'll have to worry about fighting a whole lot.

I myself am thinking about getting a 55 and a green severum since i can't get a Red Devil. From what i've heard severums are just like oscars and Jack Dempseys where they recognize their owner and are easily hand fed and react well with the owner.

i personally like the greens much more then the gold or reds.

if you do try not to get a breeding pair youll have buckets of fry befor you know it my friend had that happen to him and all the pet stores stopped buying them
but did you like your oscar if so id get a fish like a jack dempsy, green terror, texas and mabye a red devil but that might get to big and many others i just think serverums are boring there mouths are to small in my opinion fish like gren terrors are much more fun to feed and have better colors

Severums are great fish and look the part aswell, if you interested in them get some. I have 4 Greens and 1 Gold, the greens get alot red on their chest and fins with some blue around their gills, the gold is a plain gold body with red fins (I could have got one with the red body but I prefer the golden body).
