I rarely post on MFK anymore but if anyone remembers from years ago I spent a couple years on Oahu and caught quite a few cichlids. Went back for the first time since '07 for a vacation hoping to check a few small cichlids in my luggage. Unfortunately all the green terrors are gone and there were no small midas' or jags so I didn't bring anything back but I did take a few photos and videos of some of the fish.

Midas/red devils

Some jaguar cichlids. Some of the males were pushing 18".

Largest Midas/red devils I've ever seen. A lot of mass. Probably 4" thick.

Yeah yeah, not a CA/SA. I was fishing for peacock bass but all I got was a tilapia. Pretty though, in breeding dress.

I remember the first trip. I think that I still have a pic of that flaming red male on my HD somewhere. Thanks for posting!

I promise they are jags. The angle and lighting does lend them some dovii characteristics. I should have taken some photos of the females.

I would love to see picture of the island ladies but it would be inappropriate.
