rd and midas can cross breed yes, will they? time will tell.
By fire cichlids I assume you mean firemouths? if so yes If you give them a flower pot they will breed in it if thats what they want to use.

rd and midas can cross breed. A true midas is pretty hard for me to find. I either run into the red devil or the rd/midas cross. Where did you pick up that midas? They are hard for me to find. How big is your tank? They are real aggressive! Near the top of the list as far as cichlids with an attitude in my opinion. If you don't have a big tank it could be disaster for tankmates.

I think he will be alright with a 90. Once they build their nest aggression will die down and if it gets bad you can break up their view with rocks and decor one they established territory.

i'm not advocating this, but when i first started fish keeping, i had a breeding pair of RD's in a 30G tall hexagonal tank that produced a successful batch!!!

looking back i feel really bad for them since the footprint of that tank must have been 12" in diameter.

but as always, the bigger the tank the better.
