Cichlids Pike and Oscar's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I sued to have a pike cichlid in a tank with other big cichlids. it was pretty mellow - I think it would not bother an oscar if the tank was large enough .

i have had big pikes with oscars before and they got along great. but i put the same big pikes in with more aggressive fish than the oscars and when they tried to scrap the pikes they all got taught a lesson. pikes are tough customers. especially the BIG BOYS...i had a strigata and a venezuela and they both got to be brutal with mean fish yet didnt bother stuff that didnt bother them

The pike I had a few years back was the same way. He minded his own business but didn't take crap from anyone.

Should be OK.
I keep a Cabeza Amarga (c. vittata?) with an Oscar and a Tilapia, a Semifasciata with Synspilums and another Semifasciata with assorted Africans and everything is fine.

What kind of Tilapia? Buttikoferi?

That's what I would like to know!

I bought it in a Chinese supermarket about a week ago. On the first day both the pike and the Oscar picked on it a bit but now they are all good friends.

About a month ago I bought six big eels in the same supermarket and I still don't know what species. They are sold by the pound and cost less than a dollar each so when I ask what kind, they keep answering "common eel". They are cool fish, between 1-2 feet, all six live happily in a 40g with no filtration or heating and eat whenever I feed them, be it daily or weekly. They come out of the water to get their food and climb out if I live the tank uncovered but don't crawl far.
