I purchased a large "store" tank that is 150 gallons for $70. Great deal I thought, so I picked it up. It needed cleaning and some work. The tank is drilled and piped but instead of making clean cuts to remove it from the filtration system, they just broke the plumbing off. It took plenty of work (and silicone) to seal the holes as they were not standart size and with pieces of plumbing still there, I could not buy a standard plug. It is now sealed and good to go. I bought 4 1" frontosa, 3 2" Comps, 1 3" Calvus, and a Julie. Everything was great. Fish were happy and doing good until...ICE STORM from HELL!!! Power was out for 7 days and with no heat :chillpill: or filtration, everything died!!! I am now back with power and restarting with new fish. Only thing fish store had to begin cycle again was a black fin shark, so I got it. I decided to drive 90 miles this weekend to the next closest store and picked up a 3" Front, 2" sunshine peacock, and 2 4 inch electric blue haps (no other tangs). Years ago, I remember being able to get tangs with no problem (trets, elongatus, comps, etc) but now seems very difficult (if not impossible) to find. Any reason for that. Any way, here are some pics of old and new. (glass has scratches but 150 gallon tank for $70, I'm not complaining). Picked up some more rocks at the lake today and am bleaching them. I will add them to make some more caves. Will finish off the stand next payday so it's been a mess here but getting back to normal finally. Hope to have some more pics soon and some more fish. I'm thinking of orderin online since that seems to be my best option at this point...any experiences with this method would be helpful to ease my comfort level in doing so. Thanks.

great deal i would have taken that in a heartbeat

Sorry about your luck , but it seems you got it covered now. Maybe look in to some battery powered airstones and a generator!! I'm getting married and am going to add a generator to my register. lol Tank's lookin great man!! update with those new rocks!

Generator is now a must buy after that. Thank goodness it was all relatively new tank. I lost all of my saltwater stuff too in my 30g (Live rock, clown, wrasse, and yellow tang). Get to start all over again though. I've done that enough over the years. Mike, I know Indy has good tangs. I used to go to the reef a lot when I lived there. Not too far from Pendleton. I lived in the Geist area (Crystal Point). I miss the lake and the Italian restaurant there (can't remember the name of it). Anywho, Oklahoma is definitely the state of generic fish :(

I've often worried about my fish thru poweroutages, in the past I made sure to have a few Kerosine heaters - now I have a wood stove, at least these can keep the tanks at room temp. As for the lack of Tangs' - we seem to have plenty around here - I suspect after the recent Huge looses in the Florida fish farming industry things may become more sparse shortly. Sorry for your loses.

I researched any oklahoma cichlid clubs and found out the state is part of the midwest cichlid club:) Further research stated the next meeting is in...wait for it, Des Moines Iowa:( several hundred miles away. I don't think I'll join.

As for Tangs in Texas, what part and what's a good store to buy them?
