How do Cichlids deal with live plants in your aquarium?? do they tear them to peaces and is it a hastle? is it better for them than artificial plants? Thanks!

Which cichlids are we referring to exactly? It depends which species you have.

It depends on the species. I have gymnogeophagus and crenicichla in my planted 75, they don't bother the plants.

I also have some plants in my other 75 with a Green Terror and a Crenicichla menezesi, the GT pulled up a few of the plants but mostly ignores them.

some cichlids are more likely to disturb plants than others; and some plants are less likely to be disturbed/eaten in the first place

do you have cichlids and want to add plants, or do you have plants and want to add cichlids?

based on my own experience, I would say:

plant-friendly fish: rams, laetacara, blue acara, port cichlid, firemouth, rainbow, salvini
fish-friendly plants: java fern, anubia, cryptocoryne, crinum, swords

some fish I have raised in planted tanks w/o too much trouble include JD, GT, convict and Texas; but the Texas was the most troublesome and did eventually get removed . . . and I had zero luck with an Oscar, maybe because I tried to add plants to his tank when he was already full-grown

hope that helps

okay...well i have a 29 gallon and am planning on gettin two convicts with maybe a 2 jewels if that works out?

all the cichlids i have had destroyed plants. that doesnt mean yours will though cuz people do it. i just havnt been fortunate enough to be able to haha. plastic plants work better for me. even those get pulled out if their not buried good, but they dont get tore up so i can always replant them

I would stick with convicts or jewels, not both.
Live plants should be fine with either.

x2 . . . a safer bet with the jewels, but still should be okay with convicts . . .
