Hi my jewel cichlids have bloat. I was going to try Epsom salt. I have been reading that I should put one to two teaspoons of salt per ten gallons. But how often should I do this daily once a week?
Thanks
Andy
Get some frozen peas, and put them in a cup of hot tap water for 5 min, then peel the skin off and feed them to the fish in small amounts, a couple times a day.
If they won't eat them, you can try metronidazole, but if they won't eat, chances are internal damage is already done.
I've never heard of using Epsom salt on fish? Some cichlids get bloat from too much protein in their diet.* What are you normally feeding them? And the frozen pea thing works really well.
How long have you had the fish, also do they get white stringy poop? I just had the problem and used prazipro and it seemed to clear things up. The fish I bought must have been infected so I treated my entire tank. Dont do what I did though until you get back to us with some more info. Good luck.
