Up until now i have been a strictly catfish kind of guy. I am in the process of purchasing a 210g and want to stock it with a more active fish so I have been looking at cichlids. However, I do not want to randomly get all different kinds of cichlids. So my question is, does anyone have a list of the American cichlids and African cichlids? Or a list that organized the different kinds in some way so that it will be easier to stick to a sort of theme in the tank? Thanks

honestly, it would be much easier for you to just Google this question . . . just type "american cichlids" or "african cichlids" and have fun

Well I don't know much about africans only centras so I will list some for you.

Jack Dempsey, convicts, jaguars, dovii (one, extremely aggressive), red devil/midas, green terror, oscar, salvini, parrot fish, firemouth, texas, flower horn, trimac, umbee, black belt, beani, kribs, rams.

Kribs, rams, firemouths, oscars, parrot fish are not very aggressive. The rest are pretty aggressive especially red devils/miads, umbee, Flowerhorn and trimac.

If you want a compatability list let me know. Research some of these fish and see what you like then ask if they are compatable.

If you are looking for a more peaceful, yet still very interesting,(S.American) tank, then a good theme could be based around Uaru, Severums and chocolate cichlids.

You like cats and want something active.

Get like 9 blue whale cats and enjoy the mayhem.
