Hello. I have some cichlids in my tank (55 for now). I have 2 small green terrors, a few some cubans, and a firemouth. I was wondering why the green terror and cubans are outgrowing the firemouth? They are all eating the same. I want to move them to a bigger tank asap with my oscar and flagtail , but am afraid they'd attack the firemouth. They as meaning the gt and cubans. They don't really do harm to the fm but just chase him. I've have had these fish for 3 months now.
-Alex,
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

firemouths are just a slower growing species. they only reach about half the adult size (~6") that a green terror or cuban will reach (~12") so naturally they're going to grow slower. :)

Thanks for your very helpful info, damn lfs had me fooled again.
'' oh the firemouth should outgrow the others.''

Take it as a lesson. Never trust anything your LFS says, they are just out for your money not the fishes health.

Will do. Yeah, I agree.

The LFS I think you go to always makes me wonder...one guy seems very knowledgeable, but he can be rude, and the others really lack in the knowledge department. Definitely don't trust the girl...she is very nice but dosen't know enough to answer questions. They actually got under my skin enough that I don't think I will go back.

Yes, if your talking about School of Fish, inc. Thats where I go. The guy that is knowledgeable name is Dave. He is alright, you just have to go there when he has a good day. ( You'll get a discount.) He's only nice to me because I payed tons of money for my tanks and fish over the years.
The girl is nice, but yeah she isn't very smart. But she is a beginner and atleast she doesn't mind being corrected. Their are a couple of boys that work there that know nothing about fish, they just try to make sales.
I am going to see if I can go there to atleast help people choose the right fish.
The best store I've been to would be Fish Frenzy. Ed is very good. Dave (Pleco) is great and knowledgeable aswell.
A.W browns, and the others are ok but they jsut always have 1-4'' fish.

The last time I went to school of fish I picked out a few fish...I checked with the girl, and she checked with one guy, about which fish were which and how much they were (specifically a tank of plecos). When I went to go pay the other guy told me they were different fish for $15-20 more each fish...it just bothered me.

I've only been to Fish Frenzy when it was where Massive Aggression was, I've been meaning to go to his new location. I liked AW Browns when I did the community fish thing but they don't have anything I can't get at my own store. Dave's Pet City sometimes has different fish but usually just the more common stuff, and they are pricey. There isn't too many really good stores around. I really liked Exotic Fish and Pet World when they were in Hadley but now they are in Southampton, quite far from me.

Yeah I know which tank your talking about at school of fish. Thats the new arrival tank. Everything in that tank is their 'special' of the week. Their are almost always royal plecos, gold nugget plecos, roseline sharks, flagtail prochildoulis, severums, and so on. Prices range from 11.99-99.99 in those tanks, so you have to be careful. I do have that flagtail back from June, and he is doing so well. He has more color than he did at school of fish. Same with my green terrors. I go their because I live like 3 mins away and they give me deals.
Ed's new location is awesome! Considering I am a big cichlid fan and silverdollar fan. Right now in his show tank he has large pairs of severums, red bay snooks, rotkeil sevs 6-7'' for only 25 dollars for 1, etc... pretty good stock at great prices. PM me if you want his new address. He has and can always get in tigs, jurense, etc. Special order any fish. He has some baby delhezi and endlis in now I belive if they aren't sold out?
Dave's pet food is ok, but their oscars and things are way to high. The way by my house has a mono pbass, I'm tempted but I think I'm done with monsters.
Never been to exotic fish and pet. Massive Aggression is good for locals, he has good prices. I don't want to get to much into Nate. He's a friend of mine, so he always does me good I have nothing but good things to say about MA. If your a good customer nate will give you lots of discounts and more.
Maybe me and you can set up a mass meet and figure which lfs to use. Sound like plan?
It's nice to chat about lfs with someone close.

Yeah that tank had like 6 different species of misidentified plecos at the time...with names like "orange spot pleco" lol. I will check out Eds the next time I'm in Springfield. I know the owner of the shop in Chicopee...I know you had a bad experience, but he usually has some pretty cool stuff, he knows what he's doing too.

I don't know about a meet, I usually go out looking for something specific. I can get most fish from my job, but there isn't always a good variety of things like fancy plecos or some of the more obscure fish.
