Whats up fellow fish tankers, I just joined the site and have a question that I've googled but haven't found a good answer, I picked up a few red jewels over the weekend an wanna find out if I actually got a female, I think I did but wanted to c if anybody has a definitive easy way for me to tell the difference, what I have read is that my male will b a lot more red and have pointier dorsal and anal fin than the female, which I'm pretty sure "he" has, "she" I think isn't always as brilliant red but I can't really c that much of a difference n the fins, any of u fellow fishers have a better more definitive way I can tell the difference?

Welcome to MFK :) If possible post pics of the jewel cichlids, and an experienced member of the species will chime in with the answer.

Don't feel bad I'm on here almost every day, and still learning lol.
Lol, I just signed up a little over an hour ago, what u running for fish and tank setup, I'm new to this but I know my stuff on water stats and filtration though, I've got 2 G terrors, 2 electric blue jacks, 2 red jewels, they're all paired n male female, also have a bristle knose, and an ornate bichir eel, all n a 55g but gettin ready to setup a 250g with 3 canisters for the aggressive fish, gonna keep the 55 for schooling fish and plants with a Co2 setup

Love the spangles he/she is displaying.
The reds? Idk if they're he/she or not yet, but I dig them too, I wanna figure out if they're male and female cuz I've heard it's hard to figure out, I know on my jacks it's the brilliance of the color and the spots
