This pic is from John and it's listed from Peru. I thought green is from peru and blue is from else where. Can someone ID or confirm whether it's a blue or a green cincta? Thx.
I thought blue from what I seen on along back, dorsal and top of caudal. http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/5491/cinctapage.html
If you go to this link it states that there blue specimen is from a few miles east of Peru.
On his recent trip to Peru. It also states that Green specimens were found in Columbia.
Do you sex these the same way you usually sex Lugubris?
John got these guys earlier this year. They look green to me, but he got them from Peru also. Can you guys tell if they are the same variation or different?
Look at the stripe behind the eye......its greenish, so pretty freakin sure this is the green variant... Which is probably the most common, next is the red, and the blue is a pain in the arse to find
The first picture posted here looks like a green. The link to Vinnys site, the top picture of the one they are holding is a crappy pictures of a green, the bottom one is a blue.
Here, look at this thread. You can clearly see that in adults, the real only difference is the color. They all have the banding and the spots in the dorsal and caudual fins.... Just scroll down till you see the Crenicichla cincta identification part...
Hope that helps you out. The ones that John has I'm 90% sure are the Green variant...sorry guys. On the upside I'm trying to get peeps to find the Blue variant, so fingers crossed.
