So this Morning I was walking out of my house and decided that I friggin hate the shrub next to my front porch. Instantly I went, hmmm take that sucker out and make a pond. I am estimating the size will be 8(l)x4(h)x5(w), aproximately 1000 gallons. It will be above ground.

I intially thought of using the fancy locking block (retaining wall style) but that is probably a little pricey. And if I did go with that would I need to morter the blocks?

Then I thought of 4x4's. Cheap simple solution. How would I tie them into the cement of the front porch? How long would they last in the ground?

Finnally I thought of cinder blocks. Cheap, easy to install, and if I wanted to dress them up I could glue flagstone on the edges and top for that rugged look.

I am planning on using a liner. How do I measure for the liner? Pretend the walls fall flat and cover the entire area with the liner? I have read that pool liners are a bad idea. Where is a good place to buy from? How thick do I need to go?

At a 1000 gallons do I need to set up a filter system? I plan on some goldfish, comets, koi..... I was thinking just a little water fall, somkething 800-1000 gallons per hour.

Should I be looking to get a UV light sterlizer thing?

Thanks for all your help.

go with natural looking brick or arkansas stone, both are pretty cheap if you buy it by the palate
