Good Morning,

I have been encountering some dead spots in my aquarium and would like some different input on how to resolve it.

Specs: 75 gallon black water w/ 10 gallon sump, pushing 700 gph along with a fx5 running standard media and play sand as substrate.

The overflow and return for the sump is located in the middle of the tank. The fx5 intake is in the middle portion on the left and yesterday I moved the return to the very corner with the 90 degree, bi-directional shooting water along the right side and down the back. The intake and return for the fluval is elevated on center of the back.

The tank has quite a bit of mopani and various other pieces of driftwood. I will be adding more in the near future if I can find pieces I like. =) But it can create some dead zones with the pleco poop.

Stock:

1 tiger oscar
1 pleco
1 siamese algae eater
2 convicts
2 firemouths
2 severums
2 pictus cats
2 colombian sharks

An idea I had would be to add a saltwater wave maker to create a current along the back pushing water towards the fx5 intake.

On the other hand I don't want to create a jacuzzi.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you using the stock FX5 output? Why not make a spray bar for it? You can get a lot more water movement over a larger area that way with out spending a whole lot of money.

Does it really matter if you have dead spots in your tank? I mean if you had a saltwater tank i can see how you might want to fix this, but in freshwater I've never really been concerned about current, unless it's too much/too little for my fish I'm keeping

Well, I may be making a fuss over some pleco poop, BUT, considering that decay fecal matter is present in the tank and not getting up into my mech filtration...i just thought it would be wise to correct that.
