I have a 6'x6'x2' 540 gallon aquarium. Running a fluid dynamics 4500 it agitates the surface pretty well. I have a dozen discus, silver aro and 3 rays ranging from 7-12" disc size. Without running power heads do you guys think the rays stir the bottom water enough for adequate circulation? Do you guys with large ray tanks have power heads or anything else moving water in the tank? I'm also running 110 liters of k1 with a 1744gph air pump in my sump. Should this provide enough aeration?

I have a wavemaker pointed towards the bottom to bring all the poop towards the overflow. It's on a timer and on 12 hrs a day. My rays seems to enjoy it. (833 bare bottom tank)

Can't have enough flow imo. I run 2 internal power circulation just to keep things stirred up, but i only turn my total volume over about 4 times an hour so i find the internal power heads beneficial.

I use a power head that has two air stones secured to the bottom of the protective screen that is on 24 hrs a day. This supplies a great deal of oxygenated water to the tank (36" high). In addition this pair of stones and powerhead is on battery backup for those emergencies.
In addition is adds an area for fish liking swift oxygenated water to occupy.
