i was just curious the city is on my street putting in new water lines
i do alot of water changes and am a little concerned could the new pipes release sediment or anything i should be worried about???

Well, if your water isnt as clear as it should be, that could be a sign.
However, they also send out messages if the water is colored or polluted while the pipes are changed.

Don't worry, there's enough chlorine to kill anything the new pipes might add to the water. Oh wait... dammit.

depending on where your house is in relation to the new pipe system being installed, more than likely your neighbors will end up using enough water to completely flush out the system within a few hours. In any instance, I would still advise running the tub (cold) for 15-20 minutes to flush out your pipes, and wait a day or two before doing any water changes.

Most residential service lines are only 1" to 1.5" and would be completely flushed out with the tub within 20 minutes.

thank u guys your makeing me feel better
i ran water in a bucket and it looks fine no sediment clear and smells ok

If anything is showing up, it will be gone in a few days. I'd run a couple of tests for metals...but other than that, don't worry.

call the city and find out !!!!

It can happen, iron, copper, calcium salts, etc. are sometimes stirred up. If worried run the water though a tap filter before using. Or for larger ammounts use 33g plastic pickle tubs containing a 10-20 lb mesh bag of activated charcoal to let the water sit in overnight, use a powerhead or several air stones to get ciculation. This will remove most metals and many salts.
