CK: parasite or flesh wound?

Strange protrusion from its mouth area. Now, at first thought I figured it was a parasite...a thick worm-like thing with small tentacles sticking out if his mouth area. But, it is possible it is just a flesh wound, maybe he tangled with my pbass or arows? Protrusion is about a half inch long...might be a ripped lip. I know there are experts that know parasites...so maybe the pics rings a bell and it is. Better safe than sorry...thank you very much for any help.

It's a bit hard to tell, but from the 4th and 5th picture, it might be a flesh wound.

It looks like a flesh wound to me...thats just my two cents. Maybe treat the tank with salt and boost the temp to 84 degrees and maybe some melafix. See what happens in the next few days to determine if it's healing.

Cool thanks a bunch. I figured another poinion besides mine would be good. That was my conclusion as well. Hard to believe he did that to himself. It is the first sign of any trouble between the fish I have. Or it could have just "happened". Gonna treat with salt and up the temp but hold off on Melafix for now. He is really a nice 18" knife and I do not want to have to give him up, but will if I need to.

Yeah I took a look at him just now. Seems that I missed the fact he has a sort of ring of little cuts around his head. They are only enough to mark him up a lil but the skin is not broken. The only thing that could have caused it is either my pbass or arrows sucking the knifes head into their mouth, I presume, because of lack of substrate and decor. I wonder if it is going to work out with them all together...I surely surely hope so.

Guess I will see over long term.

I have decided to treat with Melafix to help him heal. Can I treat the entire tank? Thre are 2 silver arowana, 4 cichla temensis, a ripsaw cat and 2 plecos in the tank and it is 240 gallons.
