Got this 100g on Craigslist for a good price but I have never seen a tank like this before. As you can see from the pics it has glass "tops" on the top and has similar things in the bottom (which I don't understand).

My question is does anyone know what kind of tank this is and does it seem to be quality?

It also came with a metal stand which is very heavy, but I have a hard time trusting it, even though it is in pretty good condition. Should I trust it?

After a good cleaning, and filling it up, it holds water, but still has some spots that look "stained white". Any idea how I can get that off? (tried sponge, brush, and Windex with razor blade)

looks as if the tank is custom made. not sure why there are braces on the bottom. as for the white spots, i just use warm water and a good scrubbing works for me.

haha true

I would say it looks like it split a bottom seal and someone repaired it this way. I have seen huge custom built tanks with strips inside similar to this , but they were old reef tanks that were around 6' tall with live rock stacked to the rim.

Well I can see that - where the braces on the bottom are is where the rock was stacked leaving room between rock piles for swimming space.

Don't know about tank stability, but as far as the white.. good luck.

The left side of my 240 is clouded white and green with something that will not come off. The glass isn't even slippery anymore.. It's like the pieces of glass you find polished from sand on the beach.

So should I trust this thing? Or add anything to make it stronger?

bump

Well, there is a lip on the top glass before you get to where the braces are.. you could maybe look into adding top trim with a center brace, but it might look tacky.
