i aheva 1.5'' or so maxima clam in my 10 gallon reef as of now.. i was planning on moving it once it got too ig to sustain in the 10G.. but it seems my calcium is too low in the tank.. since i've added it my halimeda has gone downhill so i know it's calcium related.. cause it was fine as wine before

the only problem with mving it to my 29 reef with the halide lights (T5's over the 10) is there's a sleeper goby in the tank who kicks the sand to high heaven.. i'd have to put the clam on a rock in the tank so he doesn't get smothered by sand.. only probelm is i hear once you stick em on a rock.. you'll never get em off....? true?

this is my first clam and i got a pretty sweet deal on him so i don't want to blow it..

same could go for in the sand as well. They plant there foot and when they do, they will not let go all that easily. set him on the flattest rock you have and that way you can just move him with the small piece of rock lol.

Have you tested to see the levels of calcium in your tank. im unsure as to why calcium would be causing the halimeda to recede, unless it was above 450ppm.

cause it's a calcareous macroalgae
i'd find a smallish flattish rock for the clam to stand on, as well.

meaning calcium is a source of nutrition along with other trace elements and calcium has to be sufficient enough in the aquarium, like the calcareous Coraline Algae. When calcium gets higher then the demand then it effects a lot of parameters within the tank, which may lead to an increase in nitrate and phosphate, which would cause harm to this particular algae among other possible issues.

i believe big's problem is that his small 10gal can no longer keep up with the calcium req of both the clam and macro. i doubt it's a calcium overload rather than a deficiency.

indeed.. sorry i almost forgot about this thread no one answered :D

my calcium is now hovering around 335-350 a little low.. my other params are fine as wine.. i did move him to a rock and he's now about 5'' off the sand, in a 10 G tank that's about halfway up..

also i've re-id'd it as a crocea..

good. but the SOB keeps moving around..
i found him upside down in a cave in the tank :irked: little hari kari clam..

i'v now re-started dosing the tank with Ca and both seem to be doing better
