Clam on live rock

Yesterday i bought 3lbs of live rock for my 5gal nano and there was a clam on it how should i keep him alive do you thinks he is already dead.

Is the clam staying open all the time?
If it is and you have never once seen it close even if you poke it, its probably dead or there is nothing in it.

Hmm got any pics? Have you tried to open it? If it is hard to open it probably is alive.

just added a hermit as my first resident.Should it be okay are will eat the clam.

If the clam is dead, it will eat the meat. Otherwise, the clam should shut itself when approached.
