Clarion Angel Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would highly doubt it. These beautiful fish are so exacting in their home regions, that distribution is severely limited, making them one of the most rare fish in the trade. These fish are located on the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico; and also from Clarion, and the Revillagigedo Group off the western coast of Mexico and from Clipperton Island. These fish are a protected and endangered animal under Mexican Law and are illegal to export. The reason these animals are usually priced so high is not so much due to the available number of them in the wild, but rather, because of what the collector must do (often times illegally) to acquire these fish. Not to mention, there are several places who (if they cannot get their hands on a true Clarion), will mark a Passer Angelfish as a 'Clarion', And sell them for sometimes thousands of dollars to the uninformed customer. AT THE SAME TIME - Other's will knowingly accept private orders of true Clarions from no-name collectors, and the purposely INVENTORY and LABEL them as Passer's to avoid authority intervention. It's pretty easy to tell them apart if you know what you are looking for:

This is a PASSER

And this is a CLARION

See why to an uneducated individual, these species could be passed off as the 'same', and perhaps labeled as "Rare Colored" or something of the like. It's pretty upsetting really, and if you pay attention, the scams out there are clear as day. It would be better to avoid trying to obtain a Clarion - no matter how beautiful they are. There are plenty of legal, non-threatened, and just as beautiful Angelfish out there - that also won't break the bank!

Live Aquaria has one for sale. Nice looking fish, but too expensive for my taste.
