on an icecube.....
a week ago i had to put my 6" RTC and 7" albino clarius cat in my bare 30g wile i was finishing my new 75g, they had been together for afew days and seemed fine(ate and dident fight)then the night before i was going to put them in the 75g(i put the TSN, CK and BP in already)i woke up in the night and whent to get a drink and looked into the tank and the RTC was swimming at the bottom on his side, on a closer look he had all his fins and tail riped up/off and bite marks on his side and head:WHOA: , i put the clarius in the 75g and tryed to treat the RTC with maracyn and melafix but by morning he was dead:( , i feel realy about his death sence i got him i havent taken the best care of him(in regards to tank size)and after haveing him for 10months he was only 6" wile i got clarius at 2" 2 months ago and hes 7" now, plus i just get him a bigger tank and he DIES!! talk about irony!:irked: , iam just suprised that the clarius is the one that killed him if there were any other fish in the tank i would blame them sence i was worried the RTC would eat the him never thought it would be the other way around.

ouch, 6" after 9months, that sounds odd as hell. did u have him in a 10gal tank or what? mine is already 5" after only a month and a half. sorry for your loss. on a side note, don't purchase fish you know you can't house

That certainly is a little slow growing, but if you DO NOT power feed them, they dont grow as fast as everyone claims. 3/4 to 1" a month is about average for a non powerfed little guy.

Sorry for your loss, i lost a 2' RTC to a 6" Green terror  The RTC could have easily eaten him, but their generally non aggressive fish.. And on a side note.....Always purchase fish you know you cant house.....Thats the only reason i have so many tanks :D

actualy most of time i was power feeding(and doing a fair amount of WCs)but for about a month he would eat then puke it all up at night moveing his spong filter solved the problem:confused: , also i knew how big he would get ect when i got him but afew months after i got him there were plans to move witch happen to take almost 6 months:irked:,

Clarias are very teritorial and they can and will do serious damage in confined spaces to other fish especially bottom dwellers.
Maybe the disruption caused a territorial dispute.
sorry to hear of your loss.
The slow growth rate of your rtc is of concern, the generaly exceed 12" in 9 months and reach 24" in 2 years but slower growth rates have been documented.
check nitrates, as rtc's are sensitive to them where as clarias are indestrucible and can live in less than great conditions.

Too small a space and it brings the worst out in them.. they need room ..i am sorry for your loss..

sorry for your loss mate clarius are mean cats theyre very much like the jardini arowana in the sence that once they hit around nine months they turn aggressive (not always) but that was definately a territorial dispute but seing that it happened at night i would say one stumbled accross the other looking for food. on a different topic my rtc hit 18" in a year in his 7x3 tank after six months i fed him every other day with massivore delight.
