Just how bad are these guys? Just bought a 6x2.5x2 and with it came a Clarius around 13 inches. He was in with 2 very small lobsters and other fish around 2 to 3 inches. He seemed to be ignoring these, and the guy said he's been in with all them for around 10 months and not touched any of them.

I say this because I am in 2 minds as to keep him, he will be goin in with a BGK, 2 Lima Shovels, 5 differing Bichirs an a few others at around 5 inches. Is this a bad idea? He's been in with much smaller Bichirs since I got him and seems very timid? Any thoughts very welcome, I do love these guys but I'm always put off by the reputation. Eventually they will all go on a 1500 or so Gallon so no worries there

Clarius is a genus and a species level ID may be important. The most common one by far and large is Clarius batrachus. I would not trust him with ANY fish that can fit in its mouth. What prior owner reports is suprising and unusual... and I'd leave it at that and not tempt my fate.
