Thought I’d share this paper on updates on classification. It explains the science behind how and why changes have been made. It also helps hobbyists understand needs of the fish such as what they feed on in the wild. As many times before, this may change.

Good post.
When it first came out, took me days to get thru, because of the technical aspects needed to express clarity in scientific writing, but with lots of breaks, I did.
The study really spells out, and shows the reality, rather than simply the surface or outward appearances, that might suggest, or obscure true relationships.

Thanks and I agree. Just because some fish look similar doesn’t mean they are.

I found trichromis to be very interesting. The study mentioned how thorichthys is a sister genis. But how and what they feed on are different. It appears salvini is a piscivore. I thought it was more of an omnivore.

I wish there was more on thorichthys panchovillai. Once thought to be helleri then “mixteco”. I’m not sure where it fits in here.
