Clay Pot Cave???

i have seen alot of people using clay pots for caves in tanks i was wondering if you have to soak the pot at all before putting it into the tank or if there is a special type of pot that you need to buy? is plastic or clay better?
 
Use clay...plastic pots are a bit difficult to keep on the bottom....

LOL In any case it's always a good idea to give them a soak before putting them in the aquarium but as long as it's clean it's not really necessary.

I got away from using them and started buying those rock houses...I call them flintstone houses.... for our breeders. They work just as well and look a lot better than a clay pot...

ok cool thanks for the help..... do u just pick the houses up at the LFS or just buy some rocks from anywere??? thanks agian
 
I use plastic planters and glue pieces of rock to them with silk plants. They don't look too bad. Takes awhile, but I like building my own stuff.

I also use plain clay pots and yeah they're safe as long as they haven't had plants with fertilizer and stuff in them. In that case you'd wanna clean them well or just not use them.
 
i dont know about wolf but how i made my 'rock house' is use 2 square-ish rocks for the base with a flat top, then use a flat slate to go on top like a roof.
 
wolf post pictures of those u speak about... but yeah i havea clay pot i cut in half... make sure u cut the back out so u dont trap the fish.... but a good soak would be good especially if u dont kno where it has been
 
When I get my tan set up I'm going to make my own cave for the fish out of earthenware or terra cotta. Just a cool idea I had to be creative.
 
wow rock houses. i just silicone rocks together to make a good looking cave
