will clay pot start coming apart and turn your water redish ????

not from what ive seen....though

you do however run the risk of having people think you have a blind grandmother who has mistaken your fish tank for a gardening shed

I have lots of them, never had that problem.

You should be ok, heres an old pic of my clay pot chimney tank...

They will be fine, as long as they are terracotta. Don't use the white pots, they will break down. Terracotta pots have been used for many years as breeding caves, spawning slates, and many other miscellaneous uses.

no problem with mine

It is fine, it is commonly used for hides and breeding quarters. Many people cut them up to sizes too, so you just use pieces too, doesn't have to be whole pots.
