My girlfriend just made me a little clay castle to put in my tank. Its been glazed and fired, but she just used regular materials. I was wondering if that would be safe to put in my tank and wouldn't be detrimental to either my fish or live plants.

I know people put clay terracotta pots in tanks all the time. I'm not sure if the glaze would be a problem or not though.

If it's a clear glaze it should be fine, if it's a coloured glaze I'd probably steer clear of it unless you know what the actual pigment used is.

So I found out it is dinnerware safe, but it isn't a clear glaze. There is a darker brown that was used. And thank you all for the responses. This was my first post to MFK and I was delightfully surprised by all the responses. However, I am curious, where do you guys (and gals) get all of your information? I don't want to have to bother everyone with my small questions and pitiful 10 gallon tank.
